Video of the girls being wheeled into the special care nursery

1 month ago today our sweet girls were born! Here is one of the many videos from that preicous day!!! This is when the girls were first wheeled into the special care nursery. As you can tell daddy was very excited and very nervous (even getting the girls names mixed up and confused). I can't blame him though this was minutes after they were born and it was all so nerve racking and all types of crazy emotions.

4 Weeks

On the girls four week birthday we finally tried bottles. I have to admit I have heard so many horror stories of things not going well with the bottle that I was a little afraid that they would hate them and we were going to have all types of troubles and I would NEVER be able to leave the girls for more than a few hours, BUT to my surprise it went pretty well (hoping and praying this will continue and just keep getting better)!!! PTL! Carl started out with Makayla and she took to it like the champ that she is when it comes to feeding (in fact everytime Carl brings me Makayla to feed her he always says "the Champ is here" so that has become one of her many nicknames).

Then came Makenzie...it took her a little longer to figure it out, but she quickly got the hang of it and drank almost 3 ounces.

Makayla did not like me giving her a bottle (I did not try with Makenzie yet), but that was no surprise so that is going to be something we will work on in the future. For now daddy can do the bottle feedings and I'll stick to the breastfeeding and pumping.

Fun fact Friday's

Well since I have been super slack about blogging since the girls were born I have decided that every Friday I am going to post at least two facts about the girls for the week along with at least two pictures for the week in honor of my double blessings. This way I can keep better track of things/memories (which is part of the reason I began to blog) and you guys can learn something about the girls and see how adorable they are all at the same time!
So here are two quick facts for the week:
  • I have two of the gassiest (is that even a word) girls in the world!!!! No kidding they can fart louder than any grown man I know and blow out a diaper 10 times a day!!! Makayla already stinks...I thought breastfeeding babies and infants did not stink?! Either way we love these girls and their gas ;)
  • Makayla is going bald...Carl is convinced it is his fault for the way he washes her hair. I know this happens to babies all the time, but she literally looks like an old man just balding on the top...it is too cute!
  • We finally tried pacifiers for the first time...the jury is still out on this one. After trying a few they chose their favorite, but sometimes they love it/want it and sometimes they could care less.
Here are pictures of the girls first real baths this week!!!

Happy 3 Weeks!!!

3 weeks already?! It feels like this just happened! Best 3 weeks of our lives! We love you M and M!!! XOXO

2 Week Checkup Recap

Last week we took the girls in for their two week check up. The girls are growing right on track. Makayla weighed in at 6lb 11oz which puts her in the 7th percentile for weight and Makenzie weighed in at 6lb 8oz which puts her in the 5th percentile for weight. Makayla's height was 19.4" putting her in the 12th percentile for height and Makenzie's height was 19" which puts her in the 5th percentile for height. When Makayla was born they said her height was 16.5" and we asked them to remeasure her there and when they did they said it was closer to 17". I asked the Dr how she could have grown in height that much since we came home from the hospital and she is positive they measured her wrong at the hospital (twice?!). The Dr said that it is extremely common and she does not really consider the height accurate until they are at least 6 months old because its so hard to measure infants.

The checkup went pretty well other than some concern about Makenzie's breathing. When we were in the hospital they took Makenzie away after I was able to meet and hold her for a few minutes and kept her in the special care nursery for the first day to watch and monitor her breathing because she was having some difficulties. They continued to monitor her throughout our stay there but saw no real problems after that first day. At the 2 week checkup after listening to her breathing and watching for a bit the Dr decided it was best to double check on things so we had an x-ray of her chest and long story short everything came back normal. So after a bit of a scare and a long day the girls are healthy and that is all that matters!

I also met with the lactation consultant before the checkup and it went awesome! I am tandem breastfeeding the girls and the lactation consultant was extremely impressed that they are gaining and getting exactly what they should be! Makes me feel so proud to know I am providing nourishment so well for our girls!

Here is a slide show of pictures that were taken the first few days in the hospital by our good friend and amazing photographer Tonya Mae Photography.

These days all I have time to do is love on my girls and take care of them and snap an occasional picture to upload on my phone to facebook (thank goodness for smart phones with social networks otherwise I would be completely cut off from the world). I had hopes of posting daily to the blog with details of everything. However to be honest not only do I not have any time to do anything else, but all I want to do right now is love on my girls and cherish this precious time with them so I am sure you won't mind if I just post pictures of our cuties for a while. I promise to start blogging again with details of everything once things settle down, but right now our time is consumed with our precious M and M's and I would not have it any other way! I also have over 600 pictures and several videos to go through and then share with you...you know me and pictures ;) one day I will find the time to upload and go through them...maybe by their first birthday?!?!

Quick update on us...our days our spent just the way you would think...changing LOTS of diapers, A LOT of breastfeeding, A LOT of cuddling, bathing, sleeping, having visitors, getting to know each other, and falling more and more in love each day. We're all doing well...the girls are healthy, growing, and adorable, I'm recovering slowly but surely and learning mommy things on a daily basis, and Carl is an amazing daddy and hubby. We are truly doubly blessed!!!
